Glaucoma Management
Glaucoma is a group of disorders leading to progressive damage to the optic nerve. It is characterized by loss of nerve tissue that results in vision loss. In addition to a comprehensive eye exam, glaucoma is identified and diagnosed with the aid of a number of diagnostic tests, including perimetry (visual field testing), tonometry (eye pressure measurement) and tomography (nerve tissue assessment). Despite the damage and potential vision loss associated with glaucoma, in most cases this disease presents itself with very few, if any symptoms. Prevention is key as glaucoma is not considered a curable disease. For this reason, we feel it is most important to work in partnership with your eye care professional, asking questions and getting the information you need to take care of yourself and your family.
